In addition to acting, Jessica is an acclaimed writer and illustrator of comics and graphic novels. She draws her inspiration from the worlds of film and entertainment as well as her own experiences in the industry.
Her first published work was a one page comic strip, Passing Thoughts, illustrated by leading DC comics artist and her mentor, Mark Buckingham. She then self published It Girl, a short comic based on the life of Clara Bow. It was chosen as one of the Ten Must Own Comics 2013 by the indie comic website Broken Frontier. Her second comic, Vivacity, inspired by the life of Vivien Leigh was in the 2014 Ten Must Own Comics List 2014.
Her first full length graphic novel, Elsie Harris Picture Palace was shortlisted for the Myriad Editions First Graphic Novel Prize 2014 and published by Miwk Publications in 2015. In 2016 she published a collection of celebrity portraits in A Star is Drawn. In 2019 Unbound books published her graphic memoir Life Drawing. A Life Under Lights which was longlisted for the Comedy Women in Print Prize 2020 and Theatre Book Prize 2020. She has also contributed as an illustrator to works with Titan Comics and DC/ Vertigo comics.
Jessica has had several solo art exhibitions including one at The Cartoon Museum, London for Life Drawing. A Life Under Lights. She has guested at comic conventions world wide and is a regular at the London Film and Comic Con.
Jessica’s first play Hallie’s Comet about the 1930’s activist and theatre pioneer Hallie Flanagan was one of five plays selected for reading at The Union Theatre in 2020.
She has recently completed her first prose novel and is working on her third graphic novel about German film actor Conrad Veidt to be published in 2023.
