Philip’s career as a writer began as a member of the team on Emmerdale where he wrote 120 episodes over four years.  He moved on to concentrate on writing for theatre. His plays include “Murder,Margaret and Me”, which has enjoyed several major productions, “Edith in the Dark” which was the first play to be commissioned by Harrogate Theatre in twenty years and “Harpy” which had a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe run and has recently completed a successful UK tour.  Other work includes “Twinkle”, “Kiss Me Honey Honey” which won a Fringe First Award and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, which  toured the UK 2021-2022. “Murder, Margaret and Me” and “Edith in the Dark” are both published by Samuel French.

Philip has also become a popular writer of radio drama.  His recent plays for Radio 4, “Twenty Odd” and “Nine Bob Notes” both became dramas of the week.

Other television work includes “Hearbeat” and “Doctors” a stint as Story Editor on “River City” working with Mal Young and developing several original dramas for ITV Studios.  Philip also works as a dramaturg and teaches writing.  He was Playwright in Residence at Leeds University in 2010 and this year he’s running a major course on writing for audio at the Word, the National Centre for the Written Word.
